The Connected Futures Program, utilizing the Wi-Fly Lending Launch Kit, is designed to empower underserved residents by lending laptops and hotspots for six months. This program bridges the digital access gap, enhancing our Connected Dallas initiative, which provides community members with digital skills workshops, workstation access, and high-speed internet through walk-in locations. By extending access to technology beyond our centers, the Wi-Fly Kit allows participants to immerse themselves in personalized digital journeys, fostering personal growth, skill development, and improved quality of life. “The path to a more connected, equitable Dallas begins with ensuring that all residents have access to the tools and knowledge they need. This grant makes it possible to expand our impact, empower communities, and build a more inclusive digital future for everyone.”

— Jen Sanders, Executive Director, Dallas Innovation Alliance

Each week, the Developing Dreams Foundation’s afterschool programs engage approximately 150 children at various community and youth centers. Unfortunately, these programs often represent the only chance for these youth to participate in media arts and educational activities. Many of the centers where we work have either no internet access, very slow connections, or internet services that are inaccessible to external vendors.

With the Wi-Fly Lending Launch Kit, we can deliver our arts-focused programs with a reliable and fast Wi-Fi connection through mobile hotspots. This will allow youth to use the provided computers to connect to the internet and access software like Photopea, a free alternative to Adobe Photoshop, which we use to teach graphic design. Additionally, they will be able to engage in online programs for music production, video production, and other digital arts. Our programs will significantly enhance their digital literacy and communication skills, providing them with valuable tools for their future., The Wi-Fly Lending Launch kit will allow us to close the digital gap for these lower income youth by providing internet access via the mobile hotspot, web-enabled devices/computers, and digital literacy through programs. “It is a tremendous honor to have been selected as the recipient of Mobile Beacon’s Wi-Fly Lending Launch Kit for 2024. This recognition affirms the value, importance, and impact of our programs on the local community, particularly the youth we serve. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to expand our initiatives and enhance our ability to offer high-quality, industry-standard after-school and summer arts programs, thanks to the generous support of Mobile Beacon.”
